Skin knowledge - The 3 skin types

Hey 💜 Do you already know your skin type? If not, then I would like to introduce you the 3 skin types in this article:

  1. Dry skin
  2. Oily skin
  3. Combination skin

I'll also give you tips on how to take good care of YOUR skin specifically and show you which products are especially good for you. So stay tuned! 💜

Dry skin

Do you know the following symptoms?

Rough, slightly cracked skin that sometimes even scales so much that you feel like a snake that is shedding its skin. An itch that sometimes gets so bad that you scratch your skin until it becomes completely red and sometimes even bloody. Skin blemishes, but they only get worse when you use aggressive, drying products.

You just nodded at all my descriptions? Then you most likely belong to the skin type "dry skin". But what actually happens to your skin? I'll tell you now!

The truth behind your dry skin

All these symptoms can be traced back to one problem: Insufficient oil production by the sebaceous glands. This leads to a weakening of your acid mantle - a protective layer on the surface of your skin. This has two consequences:

  1. Moisture escapes
  2. Germs and bacteria can penetrate the skin more easily.

This means that your skin dries out quickly, wrinkles form more quickly and impurities have an easy time.

5 tips for better skin

Don't worry, we can help your dry skin and alleviate the symptoms we just mentioned! First and foremost, we need a lot of moisture and care.

Moisture gives you especially these 3 ingredients: aloe vera, glycerin and hyaluron. So use products that contain these ingredients. This way you can give your skin the moisture it can't store on its own.

Even if you have blemishes, aggressive products are a no-go. They not only dry out the pimple, but also destroy your already damaged skin. The result: dry spots where infections can get even faster.

Instead, use gentle, antioxidant serums, creams or toners. Vitamins C (ascorbyl glucoside) and E (tocopherol) are particularly helpful here. They help your skin to defend itself against blemishes without further irritating your skin.

Whether you care for your face 1x a day, 2x a day or even more often depends a bit on the needs of your skin. Because every skin is individual and unique. So observe your skin and learn to understand its needs. In general, though, I would advise you to start with less. Because yes, you can actually over-care for your skin!

Also, cleansers help to deep clean your pores and rid them of dirt and bacteria. The important thing is: don't choose a product that's too aggressive (e.g., high in acid), and again, less is more.

How to combine your products correctly

Are you overwhelmed by how to combine all these products properly? Don't worry, I'll explain it to you quickly!

The motto for any skincare routine is: from light to rich, from liquid to solid. In plain English, this means: a toner comes before a cream, a cream comes before an oil, etc.

So your routine might then look like this:

  1. Facial Toner
  2. Serum
  3. Cream and/or face oil

By the way: Since our products are all very well tolerated, most products are suitable for different skin types. So this is only a small selection. Discover more products in our store!

Oily skin

Is your skin often covered with a shiny film? Are you struggling with impurities? Do your pores look dilated? Then you most likely have oily skin.

Reasons for oily skin

But why do you have all the symptoms just described? It's due to an overproduction of skin oil in your sebaceous glands. While people with dry skin produce too little oil, your skin produces too much.

This causes your top layer of skin to thicken, your pores to clog and become larger. And enlarged pores more easily accumulate sebum, dirt, or makeup residue. This in turn gives bacteria an easy game: inflammations develop.

There are many reasons why your skin reacts this way. On the one hand, you may have a genetic predisposition. On the other hand, there are also some external factors that you can influence (in part):

  • Hormone changes/disorders
  • Stress
  • Unhealthy diet
  • Medication
  • Unsuitable skin care products

Get better skin with these 5 tips

Don't worry, there are some skincare tips you can use to improve your skin's appearance. Firstly, inflammation should be alleviated and secondly, it is important to reduce basic contamination. This means in plain language: clean the pores well, so as to prevent pimples and co.

Therefore, it is important for you to use a good cleanser that removes all dirt and bacteria from your pores.

After that, it is called to use products with antibacterial effect. Great ingredients here are vitamin C (ascorbyl glucoside) or E (tocopherol). It is also very important for you to use non-comedogenic products, that is, products whose ingredients neither trigger nor promote acne.

Many people with oily skin also make this mistake: they do not moisturize their skin. But in doing so, even oily skin can dry out! Instead, they use aggressive products. Their hope: to dry out the pimples. Unfortunately, this can also backfire and make the skin worse.

Therefore, the tip for you: treat your skin to some moisture! Here, for example, aloe vera is great for you. And you can also try a facial oil. Because that oil automatically causes pimples is a myth! Of course, you shouldn't slather any oil on your skin in harsh amounts, but oils like argan oil can regulate sebum production and thus improve your skin's appearance.

You've probably already heard the last tip, but it's just too important not to mention: Hands off pimples! I know, it's almost an unfeasible challenge sometimes. We hope a little squeezing around and that sucky pimple is finally gone. But stop! Because here come the negative consequences:

  • Your hands coming in contact with your face will cause more bacteria to invade your skin. These lead to even more blemishes.
  • Squeezing leads to even bigger, worse inflammation.
  • Scars can develop. These do not disappear at all or only very late.

Combination skin

You don't really know which skin type you correspond to, knowing both dry and oily skin? Then you probably have a "combination skin". Because this is characterized by a combination of the two skin types. So you have:

  • an oily skin in the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin)
  • a dry skin in the cheek area

The cause of your combination skin

The cause of combination skin is pore outlets that clog in the T-zone. This prevents sebum from flowing under the skin, so the rest of the face dries out as a result of the undersupply. Pores can become clogged, for example, when too much sebum is produced. This is because dead skin cells and dirt then flow across the surface of the skin, some of which is deposited at the excretory outlets and this can subsequently lead to blockages.
